Children tried on a police uniform and collected colouring activities at the Bardon Jolly July Market, while residents spoke with crime prevention officers about home and vehicle security.
The community market was held from 7am to 1pm on Sunday, 12 July 2026, at Norman Buchan Park on the corner of Baroona Road and Rainworth Road in Bardon.
The event was presented as a family-friendly midyear Christmas celebration in the park. Its advertised program included festive stalls, food, live music and children’s activities.
Police from the North Brisbane Crime Prevention Unit attended alongside Paddington and Bardon Neighbourhood Watch. Their stand added a practical safety component to the market’s activities.
Children Join The Bardon Jolly July Activities
Younger visitors received colouring activities and stickers at the police stand and were able to try on a police uniform.
Crime prevention officers also spoke with residents about security measures for their homes. The topics included CCTV and the installation of security cameras, giving attendees access to practical information while visiting the market.
Free Screws Target Number Plate Theft
Market attendees were also able to collect free anti-theft screws designed to secure vehicle registration plates.
The one-way screws are made so that, once installed, they can only be removed with a purpose-built tool carried by police. Their design makes it more difficult for offenders to steal or swap number plates.
Number plates may be targeted to prevent or delay the identification of people committing offences in other vehicles. Adding the specialised screws places another obstacle in the way of anyone attempting to remove a registration plate.
The screws extended the stand’s focus from household security to a measure intended to reduce the risk of registration plate theft.

North Brisbane Police have reinstated an online order form for residents seeking anti-theft number plate screws and are encouraging their use as a deterrent to theft.
Further safety and crime-prevention information was also made available online.
