Red Hill mosaics will soon give Bardon locals a colourful reason to leave the house on Wednesday nights. The Creative Glass Guild of Queensland will run two mosaic courses from 7 October to 11 November 2026.
The classes will be held downstairs at the Guild’s studio at 64 Fulcher Road, Red Hill. Each session runs on Wednesday from 6pm to 9pm. For Bardon residents, it offers a close creative option after work, study or school drop-off.
This kind of class feels well suited to the area. Bardon has plenty of homes, gardens and verandahs that invite a personal touch. A handmade mosaic can add colour without taking over the space.
It also gives locals a break from the week’s usual rhythm. Instead of another evening on a screen, students can cut glass, shape colour and make something lasting.

A clear start for first-timers
The Beginner Mosaics course suits people with no prior experience. Tutors April Araullo and Marianne Bland will guide students across six Wednesday evenings.
Across 18 hours, students will learn to score and cut glass safely. They will also use hand tools to cut glass to a pattern. From there, the course moves into grinding, gluing and grouting.
By the end, students will complete a 30 by 30 centimetre hanging mosaic. They can display it inside the home or outside in the garden.

That indoor-or-outdoor finish should appeal to many Bardon households. A finished piece could suit a garden wall, patio, entryway or quiet corner inside.
The beginner course costs $390. The Guild says the fee includes glass, substrate, adhesives, grout, hanging hardware and course notes. It also says its beginner courses have no hidden costs.
A stronger path for returning makers
The Intermediate Mosaics course runs on the same dates and at the same time. It suits Guild members who have completed a beginner mosaics course or have equivalent skills.
This course gives students more room to explore. They work on their own projects at their own pace, with tutor help nearby. Past project styles have included mixed media, glass embellishment, paper under glass, glass on glass, smalti, mosaics on mesh, three-dimensional work and portraits.
The intermediate course costs $175. Students provide their own materials. Members can buy glass and other materials through the Guild. However, they may need to source adhesives, grout and substrates elsewhere.

Limited places, hands-on help
Both Red Hill mosaics courses keep student numbers limited. The beginner course lists a minimum of five and maximum of six students. The intermediate course lists a minimum of four to six and maximum of eight.
That small scale makes sense for glass work. Students need space, care and a steady pace. Tutors also need room to guide people through each stage.
For Bardon locals, these courses offer more than a simple evening class. They offer a midweek reset, a new skill and a finished piece to take home.
Bookings are available through the Creative Glass Guild of Queensland website.
